He is an experienced infrared thermographer and has performed numerous infrared and nuclear moisture condition surveys on existing systems and recently constructed systems. Mr. Canon is well versed in the state of the art roofing systems and materials including conventional built-up roofing, modified bitumen roofing, single ply roofing, cedar shakes and shingles, asphalt shingles, metal, sprayed polyurethane roofing. He has performed a wide variety of roof related testing such as Factory Mutual Wind Uplift Tests, ASTM dissections, gradation, etc. He has attended training courses at the Build-Up Roofing Systems Institute (BURSI), the Roofing Industry Educational Institute (RIEI), the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI), and the University of Wisconsin. He is a Charter Member of RCI, the 1985 and 1986 President of RCI, and in 1987 was awarded Fellow of the Institute. He has provide educational presentations to groups at universities and professional organizations throughout the United States. Mr. Canon is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), and a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC).
State of Alabama Highway Department Alexander City, Ala. Engineering Assistant - Project Engineer Duties included the inspection of concrete formwork, placement and batch plants, structural steel erection, compaction testing and drafting. Later became Survey Party Chief for preliminary through final route survey for highways. Prior to graduation was Assistant Project Engineer (Field Representative) on construction of multispan bridge over a river. Upon graduation was assigned as Project Engineer on a multispan bridge over a rail road. Totally responsible for the project layout, quality control, safety, inspection documentation, etc..
1971 - 1974: Completed U. S. Army Engineer Officer's Basic Course (combat) followed by the Engineer Officers Construction Course. (Commandant's list, both courses). Next assigned as Executive Training Officer of an engineering training company; 150 to 200 men trained each eight weeks. Assigned as acting company commander for eight weeks. Reassigned to Anchorage, Alaska as a Corp of Engineers Construc- tion Inspector for seven concurrent projects totalling $3 Million. Final assignment at Ft. Benning, as a Construction Inspector for the reroofing of 90 buildings on post. Also Office Manager of the Contract Operations Branch and the Safety Engineer of the Post Facilities Shops.
1974 - 1978: Structural Engineer Primarily design of concrete slabs on grade, special construction for chemicals on concrete, and medium industrial building design. Performed load analysis of existing structures and reinforcement of the same. Project manager on roofing projects and development of special roof details. Completed several elevator renovations and new elevator designs. Specification writing, estimating and contract control were also part of experience of this employ.
1978 - 1980: Senior Designer - Engineer Design of foundations for dish-shaped solar collectors for General Electric project. Assigned to Department of Energy contracts at Oak Ridge, Tenn.: Toxicology, Energy Pollution Control System and Utility Systems Restoration at Y-12 Plant. Received security Q clearance. Next assigned to group involved with textile clients. Supervised other designers and coordinated detailing. Prepared various arrangements and techniques for cost estimate comparison.
1980 - 1983:
Senior Roofing Engineer Organized and managed a corporate roof moisture survey department serving 27 branch offices located from Alaska to Connecticut to Florida. Provided roof consulting services and testing for new construction, reroofing, and forensic projects. Trained personnel in roof inspections and testing. Marketing director for roof services.
1983 - Present:
Roof Consultant and Roof Engineer Organized company as a Roof Consulting Resource dedicated to the service of Owners, Architects, Engineers, Building Managers, Insurance Companies and the Legal Profession. Provides direct consultation in the evaluation of existing roofs, forensic investigations and the design of new roof systems on new and old buildings. |
